Day 5: From Buenos Aires to La Montanza

Today we visited a public health facility in the La Montanza municipality and La Montanza University. La Montanza is a less wealthy municipality outside of the city of Buenos Aires. Before touring the hospital, we met with the director of the hospital. He explained to us the challenges of caring for over 3 million people without the adequate funding from the province.

Since the hospital is owned by the province, it does not receive the same funding as other hospitals in and around Buenos Aires. Since the hospital is located in a poorer municipality, the hospital does not have the same finances as hospitals within the city. This directly impacts the quality of healthcare that is provided. Many of the machines in the hospital do not have equipment the same updated equipment that other hospitals have.

After this visit, we drove over to the University associated. We toured the university and also saw their clinical simulation room. Even though they are a public university, they still maintain enough funding from the government to improve their university to modern standards.
