Today, we visited the UMP6 campus and Technopark. My site visit was the UMP6 university as a whole. Before the trip, my group met after a lecture and discussed our plan. However, I felt confused because we did not have a formal lecture for our specific site. We only discussed the coding school for the majority. We did however visit Startgate, and we learned about the campus. One of the major takeaways was that UMP6 is a global university. Startgate has connections all across the world, and it is not just focused on Morocco.
In particular, I was focused on how UMP6 could use the World Cup as an opportunity in the future. I asked our guide about youth programs and how UMP6 can build a soccer program. He told me they have one focused with development. The university has tournaments and it reminded me of a high school with development athletic programs. In my final essay, I think a great best practice example would be Overtime Elite (OTE) and IMG Academy. They are similar to the sports science/development programs that the UMP6 is using for soccer. The athletes take classes like high school but have a great sports program as well. In addition, there are opportunities with women in entrepreneurship. In the lecture, 35% of the entrepreneurs in Startgate are women. Startgate is already working on a program to increase that number. This is another topic I could write about in our final essay.
