Ending the trip at AlfaOmega

on

Today, the final major day of our trip, we visited AlfaOmega, a pharmaceutical logistics company. Simply put, their job is to store and distribute drugs and medical devices for their clients. They described to us the details of their different logistic centers and how they operate in a challenging environment like Greece, which has both islands and mountains in the way of delivering to pharmacies. Then we got to tour their new warehouse. Something that stuck out to me during this visit was the layout of the warehouse. Everything like the pallets themselves, the pickers, etc were very out in the open compared to our other warehouse visits. Despite this, all the workers were moving efficiently and there was almost no discussion amongst them because everyone knew what their tasks were. The guides highlighted this as a positive because as they explained (and as we saw in our other warehouse visits), warehouses can often be loud and disorienting from the employees having to talk loudly or yell to each other to coordinate tasks.

Overall, I have truly loved this trip and am very glad to have been apart of it with a great group. I feel like I got a great view of industries I may have otherwise not been interested in, particularly maritime, and I am very appreciative of this. Thank you to everyone who made this trip possible!
