Goodbye Greece!

on

For our final morning in Greece, we visited Alfaomega Pharma-Logisics. As we walked through the warehouse, we saw how all of the pharmaceuticals were stored. The shelving units were massive, and there was also a huge freezer for more temperature sensitive products. We also got to see how orders are fulfilled, scanners are used to verify that the product is correct by scanning both the location and product before filling an order. They also had a system which allowed employees to pick up to 20 small orders at once. Interestingly enough, I used a very similar batch picking system in my retail job at American Eagle to complete orders for shipment. The warehouse was very organized, which is important because of the amount of specialization required to handle pharmaceuticals. The company must make sure that every product is properly taken care of in every step of the process, from retrieving the products to shippings them out to pharmacies in Greece.
