Day 1 – Departure Day

Today was departure day. After months of having this trip on my mind, it was time to make it a reality. We woke up and got ready to be on the bus at 9:30 in the morning. Once everyone was on, we made our way to the new Pittsburgh Airport. It was my first time in the new Airport so it was cool to see it compared to the one I grew up using. We got there pretty early to be safe so we played some cards to kill the time before our first flight. At 12:30 we took off to Newark on a one hour flight which felt really quick. Once we arrived, we had a three hour layover so we had to wait around for a while. Once 5:00 pm came around, it was time for the long eight hour flight to Munich. When boarding, I was so surprised how big the plane was, I had never been on such a big one. I got lucky and the person in the middle of my row wasn’t there, so I had some extra leg room the whole flight. After a long flight, we finally arrived in Munich. We all went to start the customs process, which was new to me since this was my first time being out of the country. Once we used the machines to scan our passport and fingerprint, we went to get in line to do the customs. Some of us got pulled away from the line and the worker took us a different way downstairs to a line with no one in it, which was so nice because we didn’t have to stand and wait in a line after a long flight. After waiting for the group to get all our luggage, we met Mr. Feick to talk about what to do from there. I didn’t get any sleep all day so I needed a pick me up for a long arrival day ahead of me. I went to the good old reliable, Starbucks of course. Ironic of me that the first thing I get in Germany is a Starbucks coffee. It was a long day but it was nice to be at the destination I’ve been thinking about for months.
