Once we took the bus to Augsburg, we settled in at a room in our hotel. Elisabeth, who is helping us with our Industry Analysis project, greeted us with some snacks and a gift bag. We got a tram pass and some dining hall passes we will use at the University of Augsburg. Once we debriefed and talked about the plans for the day, we left our stuff in the room and met with the Augsburg tour guide. Being sleep deprived and hungry, it was a tiring but great tour. My first impressions of Germany was how quiet and laid back everyone is compared to America. I also noticed how much we stood out, getting stares from many of the Germans. Walking around Augsburg is very narrow which was different to me. Once the tour was over, we headed back to the hotel to check in. I walked in my room and noticed how small it was, so that was going to take some getting used to. After hanging out for a bit, we met with the German students we will be working on the project with at a restaurant in Augsburg. I was just so surprised how much they know about America. We talked about the differences in our cultures and what we do differently and it was really cool to hear what they had to say. They explained to us the food options we could pick from and I ended up getting a dish with some sort of meat, potato balls, and a side of coleslaw. My first impression of the food was the small portion size and how there wasn’t as much flavor which made it feel more organic and healthier. I ended up really enjoying the meal by the end. It was a great first day in Germany and am excited to get this trip going.
