Day 5: Glass Egg Site Visit

I believe that Glass Egg is able to dominate the design market by prioritizing their workers lifestyles and abilities, and by building and maintaining relationships with reliable developers that fund their work. Glass Egg is a company that excels in designing 3D cars for the electronic gaming industry, so I also feel like this is a major draw that is able to differentiate and distinguish them from their competitors, as well as being a company that is quick and efficient.

The idea that Glass Egg is successful because of their worker happiness can be seen through the fact that the workers had a bunch of retreats and team building exercises that keep them motivated to maintain the high standards that are expected of them. Also, Glass Egg’s hiring process focuses on the talent of the 3D animator, as they hire strictly off their raw abilities alone, and not of their proficiency to model cars / specific designs.

A partnership that really stood out to me was their development of the Forza Horizon game, as I believe that this is the game / franchise that you can clearly see their skill and ability being showcased. The videos and gameplay that we were able to see really displayed how they dominate the industry, and I can see how their work is different amongst others.

A challenge that I feel the companies will face in the future would definitely be the evolution of AI, and how that is going to dictate the creativity and expansion of the 3D animators. They already mentioned that they do incorporate AI into their work to fix touch-ups and give slight input / recommendations, but I would definitely see this as something that could be threatening to the industry.

On a different note, as the first week in Ho Chi Minh City comes to a close, a memorable moment for me would definitely be the karaoke night that most of us attended, as this was an opportunity for us to all hang out as a group, and it was really fun to sing and dance with each other as well! I am definitely feeling like the days in Ho Chi Minh are moving by so quickly, and I’m going to miss this place and these people very much when we go back to the states, as I think there’s something really special about going to a new place with people you wouldn’t normally meet, so I’m really honored and grateful for this opportunity, and am definitely looking forward to seeing the final week here in Vietnam.
