Days 4/5 – Before the Amazon

Last full day in Otavalo and it was a busy one! We started off early with a bus ride to a volcano with a massive caldera lake, where we had a boat tour. We then went on a hike around the perimeter of the lake and got some pretty cool drone shots with Skip’s piloting. After that, we headed to a waterfall, but not before we all ziplined in the park just outside the waterfall. Lastly and after a decent amount of miles in the bus, we made it to a very remote and high up bird park that had condors, the national bird of Ecuador!

Last day in Otavalo, and we left bright and early with plenty of stops in the way before the Iyarina lodge in the Amazon. First, we stopped at the equator, which was pretty cool to see 0 0 0 on your compass. After that, we had a fairly long ride to a 13,300ft peak, where we took a little stroll around. Next, we drove to the hot springs! Which were amazing, definitely not what i expected though, it was more like a resort than a nature hot spring, but still amazing and the cold plunge felt great too! Last stop before the lodge we went to the cloud forest, but not before it absolutely poured down, and the bus ride felt a little sketchy, not seeing anything in front of us! We made it through, and while it was still raining, a poncho and a bit of enthusiasm helped us to go for a little wander around the cloud forest trail, our first real time experiencing this environment!

Lastly, we made it to the lodge at night and had to lug our suitcases in what felt like a mile to our houses on the compound, got some rest, and were ready for the next day coming!
