3rd day in Rotterdam: museum and roof garden

Today was our third day in Rotterdam and we spent it exploring the city and going to a museum. We began our day with breakfast and then took public transportation to visit a roof farm.

After arriving at the roof farm, we met our tour guide and began our tour around the city. As we walked, we learned about how the city catches rainwater. One cool thing we saw was a rainwater collector that connects to a system which can extract information from the water. After walking around the city, we went to the building that has the roof farm. The roof farm was very cool as it grew produce that is used for the roof’s cafe. The garden also had chickens and several bins for composting. After this we went to a cafe and had coffee and snacks. The cafe also had a rock-climbing wall, so some people went bouldering as well. After this we took a bus to the museum.

The museum was all about water flooding. We learned more about the flood and how impactful it was on Dutch people. The flood killed 1836 people in the Netherlands which made it necessary for people to think of a new plan to manage the water levels. The museum contained many artifacts from the Dutch homes. It also contained a model house of homes that were gifted to the Dutch people after the flood. My favorite part was the wall that showed what other countries gave to the Netherlands after the flood. It was nice seeing that other countries came together to help the Netherlands rebuild after the flood. After the museum we had the rest of the night free. For dinner we got pho at a Vietnamese restaurant. We then explored a market in Rotterdam and got ice cream which was delicious.
