Last day in Bilbao!! Started our day off pretty normal. Breakfast in the hotel and then walked over to the school one last time. We meet with Saioa and we listened to her give a presentation on healthcare from the user perspective in Spain. We learned a lot about the healthcare system overall but learning and seeing it from the patient perspective was so interesting. While she was going through it I was comparing the information she was telling us to what I’ve experienced in the US healthcare system. Safe to say there are a lot of differences. The main thing that stood out to me was how insurance and money in handled in the US. When you walk into your doctors appointments, you normally get asked right away for your insurance before anything else. Whereas compared to the Spain, doctors and healthcare workers don’t even ask at all. They focus on the patient health always.
Afterwards we got to see two ongoing projects and teams at the school. We started at a team of students that was creating a prosthetic arm. Then we went to the guitar lab which was so cool to see the behind the scenes of.
We then took the metro to Getxo, where we all got to walk across the hanging bridge. It was such a cool view from the top of the bridge even though it was very windy and chilly.
Then to warm up before dinner we headed to a cafe and grabbed coffees and some sweets. For the last day it was really nice to get some time for all of us to just sit, hang out and talk. We all can’t believe our trip is over…
Then to finish out our 2 weeks in Spain, we had an amazing dinner all together. The food was great and everyone was just having so much fun spending so much time together.
I’m so grateful for this experience in so many ways. I met so many amazing people who I can’t wait to see in classes next semester and just around campus. I also learned so much, each lecture and visit really opened my eyes in the healthcare sense and the engineering way as well. I’m so sad to say it over but I had the best time in Bilbao!!!!
