Welcome To The Jungle

Yesterday morning we woke up around 8 am, and had breakfast. We were served crepes with jam, fruits, and coffee. Afterwards, we started our itinerary of making clay pots. An expert ceramicist walked us step by step how to make a traditional pot, and we each had the opportunity to make one. Afterwards, we walked down to the shore of the Río Napo, and hung around with two of the local children, Camilla and Zoey. Being that they only speak Spanish, I was able to practice some more, and even got to try some of their traditional activities, like putting clay on our bodies. Hot and slightly sunburnt, we headed to lunch. The main course was this steak-chili dish, which was one of the best I’ve ever had. They paired it with mashed potatoes, a light salad, and fresh watermelon.

One finished with lunch, we drove down to a cacao harvesting field, and got to try extremely fresh cacao. And while I was terrified a bug would crawl into my water boots, I still had a really good time. When we arrived back at the lodge, we all dipped into the newly finished outdoor pool, which

overlooks the scenic view of the Amazon.

At night, we had tilapia for dinner, and although seeing a freshly cooked fish with eyes and bones did freak me out a little, it was nonetheless delicious. A little while after we headed through the Amazon, sight seeing bugs and creatures at night.

Reflecting on this trip thus far, I think I’ve had a lifetime of adventure these past few days, and am lucky to have such a rare experience.
