By now, I was starting to a feel a lot better, so I decided to resume my usual participation with the class. We started our day off by touring POSTECH, a small STEM university in Korea. Apparently, this is a location where Pitt students can study abroad, so I made sure to ask the tour guide questions and see if this school could be a good fit for me. According to the tour guide, the campus is four times larger than Pitt’s campus, which I found to be very impressive. I also took note of POSTECH’s investments into their science and engineering programs, which could make this location viable for studying abroad. Overall, I really enjoyed getting to meet the students and seeing what POSTECH has to offer.
After eating lunch at POSTECH, our group visited POSCO, a steel production company. We began our company tour by visiting an interactive museum that showcased some of the products POSCO has produced. Within the museum tour, our group also watched some videos explaining the manufacturing process of steel. These videos would later explain what we see during the factory visit. Unfortunately, I was not allowed to take photos of the steel production facilities due to legal reasons, but I will share how impressed I was with the size of the factory. Additionally, I was shocked by how hot the steel mill was, due to the process of rolling hot steel into different shapes. So far, this was the most entertaining company visit, as it was the first visit where I could actually observe manufacturing.

Once our company visit ended, I spent the rest of the evening exploring the beach area and getting dinner with friends. Because I was sick for the past few days, this was the first time was able to explore Pohang. Compared to Seoul, Pohang was a lot less busy and overwhelming, which was a much needed change of pace for me. I’m looking forward to tomorrows company visit at Hyundai!
