Day 3 – First Look at The University

To start the day, we took the tram for the first time to go to the University of Augsburg. It is very clean and is a smooth ride compared to the public transportation back in Oakland. After a 15 minute ride, we arrived. The university was very peaceful and you wouldn’t even think that class is in session. We walked to the classroom, then my group worked on a small presentation about the company we were each assigned, mine being KUKA Robotics. After presentations, we heard from Patrick Will from Audi. He talked to us about their current corporate strategy and competitors in the automotive industry. It was great to hear how AI is used within companies, competition from the US and China, and the demand for electric vehicles in the market. After that, we headed to the University’s dining hall to grab some food. I went with pasta and a salad which was delicious. After eating, one of the Augsburg students took us on a tour around campus. All the buildings looked similar which was interesting. A set of stairs separates the upper and lower campus, so the two sides like to have friendly banter which I thought was funny. From the tour we separated into groups to do a scavenger hunt back in Augsburg. This scavenger hunt refreshed my memory of the city from yesterday, so I had a good idea where everything was. The student also gave us some great food and hangout options which was good to know for the future. We ended the day with a group dinner at an Italian restaurant called Dragone. I went simple with a Margherita Pizza. I am excited to keep trying the foods here and experiencing a brand new culture. It was a great day and I am starting to settle in after a few days here in Germany!
