The rain today was very unexpected! It would start, then stop, then start, then stop, and on and on. It was actually crazy. I’ve never seen anything like that before. It would POUR so hard for 5 minutes and then be sunny skies a few minutes later.
I will say, it was cool to see how the climate is so different here, but at the same time I was getting super annoyed. First, whenever we were at the hanging bridges, it was on and off for a while and then at the end it down poured. I was so frustrated getting on the bus because my clothes were wet and soggy. Again, at the paddle boarding the same thing was happening. This time I didn’t have my rain jacket and was just accepting defeat. Finally, when we were at lunch and the chocolate and sugar cane tour, it was absolutely crazy. I have never seen it rain so hard one minute and be perfectly fine the next.
I honestly think it depended on the activity and if it was making me frustrated or not. At the hanging bridges, I was so mad because my tennis shoes were soaking wet getting on the bus. I felt bad for Pino because of all of us dripping! But, whenever I was on the paddle board, I honestly did not care at all. It felt nice because I was so sweaty from using all my muscles (not much) to try and get to the other island on my paddle board.
There are many different things that farmers and companies plan for slower seasons. For example, saving up extra money during heavy peak seasons, so they can use that extra money if they need more help in the slow seasons. Another thing that they do is plant many different crops, so they aren’t relying on 1 specific harvesting season. That way they can still make profit year-round and not face a time where they have no income. One thing that my job (Urban Air Trampoline Park) does in the summer is a bunch of different promotions on ticket prices and birthday parties to get people in the building since it is very slow for us. Farmers and different companies do this also by lowering crop prices or giving out promos to their customers. This helps bring people in and keep coming back.
Today we had such an amazing day, despite the rain. Honestly it was a learning experience for me and for all of us here. We haven’t experienced any bad weather so far, so today felt not great in the moment, but it was a learning journey for us all!!!
