Today, we headed back over to Postech to do a tour of their campus. They have a bunch of students who work with a lot of foreign exchange students and help them out, so we split up into a couple of different groups with different students and got to walk all around campus. My group’s tour guide was really nice and informative about the campus. Compared to Pitt, Postech has a really big campus, so there was a lot to see everywhere. They also have lots of green space on campus, which makes everything look really beautiful. At the end of the tour, we got lunch at the “Change Up Garden”, which serves lunch with a robot server. You get to order from a kiosk at the tables, and a robot will bring it over for you. That was pretty fun to see, and I liked watching the robot drive around the restaurant.
After our final Postech visit, we got to go and visit the company Posco, which is the company that founded Posco. Like Pittsburgh, Pohang is also a city that is built on the steel industry with the company Posco. Before we got to go inside and actually see the steel mill, we got a tour of the museum about the history of the company. Our tour opened up with this whole elaborate video in a room that projected onto all of the walls. It kind of reminded me of the preshow videos that they play at Disney World because it was so elaborate. We got to see all different kinds of things that are made out of steel that mimic different materials, and I learned that you can make practically anything out of steel, which was really cool. They had this huge flippy dot thing on the wall, and a big speaker painting made out of steel. All of the stuff we saw inside the museum was really futuristic and cool, and I really liked walking around and seeing everything.

After the museum, we actually got to go inside a real steel mill and see steel actually being produced. When we got back on the bus to head over to the mill, they gave us all plastic bags to put our phones in so that we couldn’t take any photos. I mean, I wasn’t going to take any, but if someone was going to, I don’t think those were really stopping anyone. At the steel mill, we got to watch as really hot steel came out of the blast furnace and went through different parts of shaping the steel. When it went through, a bunch of water would go everywhere, and it was really loud. My favorite part of the steel mill was how hot it got when you were right in front of the steel. We weren’t very close to it, but it was still really hot, and when it moved away from you, you could feel the heat moving along with the steel, which I just thought was really cool. I thought that yesterday was the day that I would probably see the coolest thing on the trip, but in my opinion, the steel mill definitely beat yesterday. This trip is going by so quickly, but we still have a few more days to make the most of it!
