Embracing AI One Chat at a Time

Our discussion on AI today really helped me reflect on how the way we work is changing. While businesses used to have to focus on the planning stage of a business project, AI capabilities are taking control of this step. With planning being done by AI, business personnel now have to focus more on initiating projects, orchestrating them, and controlling them. In addition, AI agents analyze and think rationally, but humans are still needed to verify AI’s work and orchestrate agents to be able to do the work. Being able to perform different tasks such as verifying AI output and orchestrating AI agents relates to the lifespan of basic skills diminishing, therefore requiring adaptability amongst workers. In addition, this could affect the type of degrees that are offered in the future, as people would want to pursue degrees that are relevant to the job market.

Another thing that stood out to me from the discussion is what we as humans bring to the table in the workplace. AI does have many capabilities and access to a wide range of information, but it does not bring the social and emotional intelligence that humans do. This is why it is so important to leverage what makes us unique in the workplace while continuing to develop our AI skills.

Personally, I have utilized AI to help find online sources and generate ideas. For sources, I usually look through the links used in the AI Overview to see if it used anything credible. Especially when doing research, however, I do not settle for AI’s interpretation, but rather visit the websites myself and analyze them. In terms of generating ideas, I once utilized AI to help me match personality types with topic possibilities for a nonprofit’s high school mentoring event. The goal was to gain insight into what type of topics students would like to see and professionals they would like to meet at the event. Instead of letting AI interpret the situation, I prompted ChatGPT with definitions of the personality types and topics. Doing this put me in control of the AI tool, and it was able to offer some great suggestions, which I looked through and changed some of the wording to make it sound more natural. In addition to how I currently use AI, I plan to start exploring more AI tools to see how they could enhance my learning and help me develop AI skills for my future career.

Based on the AI discussion, I do not think AI will negatively impact an entrepreneur’s creative process, rather it will encourage them to be even more creative. Many people today have access to the same AI tools at no or little cost and can use them to create things in little time. Although anyone can use these tools, the key is how to prompt AI so that it does not give you standard output. The value may no longer be placed on the product, but instead the prompt that was used to develop the product. This ties into the concept of entrepreneurs needing to be even more creative when developing prompts so that their final products stick out from the rest. In addition, as AI continues to develop, entrepreneurs will have to adapt and find more ways to utilize it, requiring them to think outside the box.
