I feel like commercializing nature is definitely not the best way to save it because it puts the biodiversity of the planet at risk. When farmers or corporations grow single plant plantations, they damage the biodiversity of the area. In Canopy AMA xtreme, the production of the zip lines causes humans to clear out paths and create noise which disturbs the wildlife. With that being said, Costa Rica has approximately 530 acres of tropical rainforest that is completely protected. Protecting the wildlife is the best way to save nature however it is not pragmatic because humans need the land to survive. The way Costa Rica commercializes nature is the most pragmatic which is shown because Canopy AMA xtreme only allows 80 tourists to come to their site within a few hour span. This is not the most optimal way to make a profit, but it shows that they do not want to jeopardize the land.
The challenge with relying on tourism is that it creates a risk which was shown during the pandemic. If visitors stop coming during something like the pandemic or the rainy season, companies might struggle to afford their conservation and sustainable practices. One business idea that they talked about during the rainy season was to have promotions for their site. By offering rainy‑season discounts or bundled packages, AMA can attract visitors who might otherwise skip the trip, helping to keep revenue flowing even when demand is lower. Another thing they could do is partner with the local universities to let them pay to use their land for education and research. They could do this in September or October because those are the two worst months for business.
