Today’s topics were quite broad, with one being social entrepreneurship and the other AI. Given the differences, we were all presented with the choice to pick one or the other to write our blogs on! Given how I plan to eventually get the certificate for AI foundations in business through the University of Pittsburgh, I see it perfectly fit to discuss AI today.
One of the main points that I took away in the discussion today was that it’s necessary to begin to implement AI into our lives as it continues to grow. Throughout history, it has been shown time and time again that whenever a brand new, influential product is introduced those who chose to stray away will face the consequences. The guest speaker today spoke on this briefly with the invention of the printing press. When introduced, select countries that tried to preserve the raw, handwritten copies of text faced a detrimental drop in economics when compared to those who implemented it into their system immediately. With AI, I personally believe that a similar pathway should be followed, just as the speaker today had proved.
With this being said, how much do I really use AI right now? I personally use it as a study tool and have done so prior to every exam this past semester for my Intro to Marketing course at Pitt. Through trying several different models, I have found that Claude excels at producing studying games, such as jeopardy or jailbreaks, to help me improve. In addition, I have found that NotebookLM by Google can aid me in anything I want so long as I have the resources on hand. What makes Notebook unique is that it can only respond to prompts given whatever resources are uploaded to the program, so using my own notes that I take in class alongside backing slideshows provided by professors, I can really accelerate my learning process.
Something else to consider with AI is if it will negatively impact forms of creative thinking. I believe that through the ways that I implement AI that this will not be the case so long as it is used properly. AI is and will always be a tool that my generation and those after will be able to use to get a huge head start in whatever we dream of compared to the generations that came before us. So long as there is always human thought and deliberate intent to improve, I think that AI could be an ideal stepping stone for humanity.
