Day 10 – Lectures and Lunch

Today we headed back to the downtown Austral campus. We started our morning with a
presentation from the ministry of health. The ministry of health is in charge of providing support
to the provinces and coordinating health policy across Argentina.

For lunch, we stopped at a little cafe near the building. We ended up getting avocado toast. We
had extra free time so we walked around a little and looked in some bakeries and fruit stands on
the street.

For our last activity at Austral, we had time to work on our final presentations that we will be
presenting on Thursday morning.

Federalism strongly influences the public healthcare system in Argentina because power
is divided between the national, provincial, and municipal governments. The national
government, through the Ministry of Health of Argentina, creates health policies and
coordinates programs like vaccinations. However, provincial governments run most
public hospitals and manage healthcare funding and workers. Municipal governments
mainly focus on local clinics and preventive care. This federal system allows provinces
and cities to meet local healthcare needs, but it can also create differences in
healthcare quality and access between regions.

Tonight, we are headed to a tango show! After taking a tango lesson, I’m super excited
to watch the professionals. The girls are all dressing up so stay tuned for pictures!
