Day 4: Leading Robot Tech – KUKA

After visiting the BMW Factory, I was very invested in seeing KUKA. The whole factory at BMW was practically run by these robots and wherever you would look you would see the iconic orange machines.

We started out the day arriving at the headquarters by streetcar, it was a much shorter trip than BMW. We walked inside and I was immediately amazed at the place; it was a vibrant white with subtle orange. We got an introduction to the company by their own personalized AI, which showed us the history of the company and where they stand. After that, we got a brief show by two robots that did a personalized routine, it was very fascinating. We followed this up with a stop at the cafe – this was a much-needed coffee trip.

After our brief stop at the cafe, we had a guest speaker who was specifically from the automotive division. This speaker gave me great insight to the importance of KUKA, and where they are as a company. We must’ve asked this guy over twenty questions, and it even got to the point where he had to leave because he was out of time. This is awesome though because it shows how invested the group really is, there was definitely a specific interest for KUKA.

Following this we did the factory tour; this was also an amazing experience that words really can’t describe. Seeing robots building robots is something that I cannot wrap my head around. Being in that factory and seeing it all really made me realize what the future of robotics is, as well as the future of the automotive industry, it’s KUKA.

Overall, this was a particularly special day because I can say without a doubt that this was the tour I was looking forward to the most. It striked a very specific emotion in me that I cannot really describe, it made me feel motivated and excited for the future. It honestly made me want to get into robotics – I love gaining a passion for something through an experience, and this is exactly what that was.
