Day 5: These Castles Are Crazy Man

The day started off very slow, I was off about an hour of sleep, but I still managed to make it to breakfast which slowly healed me. We got on the bus and headed towards the alps. We were heading to Neuschwanstein, a large castle built my King Ludwig II.

While I said that KUKA was my favorite company trip, this was easily my most anticipated trip. Ever since I learned we were going here during class back at Pitt, I was so eager to go. The pictures that I would see online were crazy and I was ready to take the same ones.

When we arrived, we unfortunately had some bad weather. However, even terrible weather could not take away from this beauty. Upon entry, we walked up a steep hill to get to the castle, every now and then horses with carriages would come by which was cool. Once we made it up, I was shocked by the view. This large man-built structure just sitting in the desolate mountains, it truly had me in awe. To be honest I actually thought the cloudy/foggy weather made the castle look better. It gave it this eerie vibe that matched the setting perfectly.

After a little we toured inside the castle and let me just say it was pretty mind-blowing. To think that King Ludwig II designed all of it is crazy. The interior detail was just mesmerizing. One thing in particular I found especially cool was the bedroom. Everything was made of wood, and the carving job was insane, there was a whole city on top of his bedframe. We ended the tour stopping at the gift shop, which was nice because I got things for my mom and grandma.

After the tour we hiked a bit more up to stop on this bridge that overlooked everything. This was easily the peak view, and the iconic one I was referring to earlier. However, I was terrified of the wood planks on the bridge and did not stay very long.

Overall, Neuschwanstein did not disappoint in the slightest, in fact, it exceeded my expectations completely. It was able to do this even with terrible weather, which I think speaks a lot to how special this place really is. I took a fat nap on the way home as the rain fell outside the bus, and was ready for my light day that followed.
