After spending 2 weeks in Argentina, I have learned so many things I could have never learned sitting in a classroom in the United States. Whether we were touring hospitals, listening to lectures, or exploring areas in Buenos Aires, there was always a lesson to be learned. During our hospital tours, I learned a new persceptive of what people had to live through everyday in Argentina. One place we visited that was really inspiring was Tigre. It was crazy to see how people had to travel by boat to go to places such as the clinics or even school everyday, as that is something unheard of in America. Seeing how people would take boats, and go to clinics that were very small and had very unmodernized equipment made me realize how lucky I am to live in a very modernized society. Seeing this has inspired me to want to travel to poorer countries to help others who don’t have the same opportunities as me. Another thing I learned was the cultural differences in Argentina. Compared to the United States, people take things a lot slower here, and it was refreshing to be able to slow down and actually be able to take things in completely. Having slower meals and being able to chat with the new people I met on this trip was very nice, and I got to meet a lot of new friends from both the University of Pittsburgh and Argentina. Additionally, I learned a lot of new Spanish phrases and words that I did not know before. I came into Argentina knowing basically no Spanish, and by my end of the trip, I have learned a lot of words and common phrases in Spanish, as well as how to order food and drinks in Spanish, and this is something I am sure with help me further on in life. Lastly, I learned the importance of stepping outside of your comfort zone and trying new things. I am from the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg campus, and I am a very shy person, and was very scared to come on this trip and be around all new people and far away from home. The most fun I had was meeting my fellow classmates and making amazing memories with them, and that is something I would never trade for the world. I have made so many new connections and friends, and if I had not stepped out of my comfort zone and applied to come on trip, I would have never got the chance to meet any of these people. I am now very confident in my ability to talk to people and make new friends, and I realized that spending time away from my friends and family at home isn’t scary, and that there is a whole new world I can explore by taking new opportunities that I may be hesistant about. I am so grateful that I took the chance and applied for this trip, and I have made so many memories. Thank you to Jason and Grant for leading us during this trip, and thank you to all of my new friends for making this one of the most memorable experiences I could have ever had. I’ll miss you Argentina!
