Day 7: Releasing the Munster

Yesterday was our last day at the University of Twente, and we took a bus this morning to the city of Munster. This city is very historically important, as it is the place where the Treaty of Westphalia was signed. This treaty ended the 30 years war, one of the most important wars in the Middle Ages. After going to the building where it was signed, we walked around and looked at some of the impressive church buildings they have. Some of them had cages where they would place the bodies of heretics as an example. This shows the conflict between the Protestants and Catholics, one of the causes of the 30 years war. The church buildings themselves are bigger than most of the ones we have in the US, and had very ornate designs.

After our day in Munster, we took the bus to Rotterdam. Rotterdam used to be one of the biggest ports in Europe, and is still very influential. We found out that the public transportation in Rotterdam is just about as good as the public transportation in Amsterdam. We are able to take a train or bus to pretty much anywhere where we would want to go, at pretty much anytime we would want to go. This is very different from the car-centric life in the US, where taking exclusively public transportation is nearly impossible for many people.
