Day 15- Back to Pittsburgh

This experience has completely exceeded my expectations in every way. I came into the program knowing that I would enjoy it, but I didn’t know the impact it would have on me. I have learned so much about German History, automotive companies, and about how to work with those of a different background from me. I am leaving this trip with many new friends who have completely shaped my experience. It would not have been the same without this group of Pitt students and our Augsburg colleagues. Meeting the German students has been the best and we became really close with some. I have never had international friends and having them show us around, take us to dinner, and even come with us to Salzburg was amazing. It’s what makes leaving even harder because I won’t be able to see many of them in Pittsburgh next semester. I am so sad to leave the city I have called home for the past two weeks. I really have grown to love Augsburg and will miss exploring Germany, I’m sad my time has come to an end. I have been missing my family and the routine I have at home, so I am also looking forward to going back home as well. I am excited to not have to pay for tap water or bathrooms in the US and the food we have here is better than German food in my opinion. I am also looking forward to the stores and restaurants not closing so early, so if I need something after 7pm I can get it.

Our travels were very smooth and we had no issues. The flights went by quickly, I watched some movies and slept, this long flight was a lot better then on the way there. The only problem we encountered was the baby who screamed the entire flight from Dulles to Pittsburgh. When I got back, it was good to be home again and sleep in my own bed. I slept 10 hours last night and was still tired when I woke up. As I sit here writing this from my bed I can now understand what people mean by “post abroad depression.” I look through all the photos on my phone remembering all the places we visited and the memories I made. I miss my IBIS breakfast with the group, our adventures on Karl’s bus, and the constant laughs I shared with the people I get to now call my friends. Even the little things make such a huge difference in this experience and I know I will never forget it.
