On day six of the trip, we had a more relaxed day in Augsburg before heading back to the University of Augsburg for a guest speaker later in the afternoon. After spending the earlier part of the week constantly traveling to company visits and historical sites, it was nice having more time to explore Augsburg and slow things down a little.
One of the highlights of the day was hearing from a reporter from Bloomberg Businessweek at the university. After spending the week learning directly from companies like BMW and KUKA, it was interesting hearing a completely different perspective from someone who reports on business and economic trends professionally. The speaker talked a lot about the automotive industry, globalization, electric vehicles, and the challenges companies currently face. I found it interesting hearing how these topics are viewed from the outside rather than directly from the companies themselves.
Before heading to the university, a few of us spent more time walking around Augsburg and exploring parts of the city we had not seen yet. We visited Schaezlerpalais, an 18th century mansion located in the center of Augsburg. At this point in the trip, Augsburg has started feeling much more familiar compared to when we first arrived. I have become much more comfortable using public transportation and navigating the city itself. One thing I continue to notice is how much history is everywhere throughout Augsburg. It feels like every street or building has some kind of historical significance while still functioning as part of everyday modern life.
Later in the day, my group members and I spent time working on our industry analysis project presentation about BMW. Since we had already visited the BMW facility earlier in the week, it felt easier connecting our research to the real experiences we had during the tour. I think actually seeing the production process and hearing directly from company representatives gave us a much stronger understanding of the company overall.
One thing I did not expect throughout this trip was how much I would appreciate the architecture and culture of Augsburg itself. Spending more relaxed time in the city made everything feel more real and helped me appreciate the balance Augsburg has between being a modern student city while still preserving so much history and culture. Overall, Friday felt like a really good reset day before continuing into the final part of the trip.
