Day 14: Salzburg Has My Heart

Somehow we have made it to our last official day of the program and what better way to spend it than in Salzburg, Austria? We woke up early to make the most out of our day and we caught the 8 AM train, which the German students helped us figure out. The train ride from Munich was about two hours and it was incredibly scenic. The fields and mountains went on as far as the eye could see.

When we arrived in Salzburg, we made our way to the Mirrabell Gardens, which was a filming spot for The Sound of Music. These gardens were surreal and so beautifully kept. Also, I must note how PERFECT the weather was today, the sun was shining and it was in the 70s. After the gardens, we walked over the Makartsteg Bridge which is also known as the Love Lock Bridge ( a lot cooler than the Schenley Park one). Then, we all stopped to refuel with a snack and a coffee at a local spot before some of our group split off to do the Sound of Music hike, which led to incredible views.

I decided to stay in Salzburg and explore the city. First, we took a sky tram to the Hohensalzburg Fortress and when we got to the top and turned the corner to the main lookout point, my jaw dropped. I have never seen something more beautiful; between the blue skies and the view of the Alps as far as the eye can see, I felt like I was staring straight at a real life postcard. We took our time up there, enjoying the view and capturing the moment with tons of pictures. We sat down at a restaurant up in the fortress and felt the cool breeze from the mountains while enjoying some desserts.

We spent the rest of the day frolicking around the streets, visiting local vendors and shops, and taking in the beautiful views. Today could not have been better; we had so much fun as a group experiencing a new country and taking advantage of the free time. We caught the last train back to Munich and as I looked out the window of the train, I took the time to reflect back on how amazing this trip has been. When we got back, I started to pack up my suitcase and also question my purchasing decisions because yikes… not sure how this is all going to fit.
