After spending several days visiting universities, factories, and companies, our trip took a very different turn with a visit to Neuschwanstein Castle and the Bavarian Alps. From the moment I saw the castle in the distance, it felt like something out of a fairy tale. As we made the hike up the hill, the castle became more impressive with every step, and once we finally reached it, I understood why it inspired so many stories and even Disney’s famous castle designs.

Walking through Neuschwanstein felt like stepping into a fantasy. Every room was different and filled with intricate details. The walls were covered in artwork that told stories, and the floors were decorated with beautiful mosaics that featured animals and scenes from legends. One thing that stood out to me was how often swans appeared throughout the castle’s design. Since King Ludwig II admired swans, they were incorporated into many of the decorations and symbols throughout the castle. There were also rooms designed for performances and entertainment, making it clear that the castle was meant to be more than just a place to live. It was built as a retreat where Ludwig could escape from everyday life and immerse himself in his own world.

One of my biggest takeaways from the visit was the incredible amount of detail that went into the castle. I was surprised by how intricate the design was and how much thought was put into every room, especially considering the time period in which it was built. Long after I return home, I think I will remember both the castle itself and the journey to reach it. The hike up the mountain, combined with the views of the surrounding landscape, made the experience feel even more special. Standing on the bridge behind the castle and looking at both the castle and the mountains around it was probably myfavorite moment of the day. It truly looked like a princess castle straight out of a Disney movie.

When it comes to the Alpine landscape, I do not think there is necessarily a conflict between the region’s economic value and its natural beauty. Tourism brings significant revenue to the area, and that money helps preserve many of the sites that attract visitors in the first place. While touring the castle, I noticed employees carefully maintaining and cleaning different areas. Seeing that attention to detail made me realize how much work goes into preserving a place like Neuschwanstein. The tourism industry helps provide the resources needed to protect these historic landmarks while also supporting local businesses and communities.
After spending the previous days surrounded by factories and discussions about manufacturing, it was refreshing to spend a day immersed in nature and history. Visiting Neuschwanstein allowed me to experience a different side of Bavaria that goes beyond business and industry. It gave me a glimpse into the region’s royal history, culture, and traditions. Between the castle, the mountains, and the small details we saw throughout the day, I felt like I gained a deeper appreciation for Bavarian culture and the unique identity that makes this region so memorable.
