Final Thoughts

Ethical Issues in My Profession:

There many ethical issues in the business world. One ethical issue is making sure health and safety of customers and the environment does not get compromised. For example, DuPont produces chemicals that kill weeds, but they need to make sure these products do not harm people or surrounding plants.

Educational Breadth as Professional Development:

I believe that it is important to be a well-rounded business professional. Being well educated in all aspects of business and culture will make doing business easier. This study abroad trip has helped me become more rounded an understand the culture and businesses of a very different country.

Lifelong Learning, Continuing Education as Professional Development:

It is important to continue learning outside of the classroom and after graduation, because the world is constantly changing and we need to be willing to accept change and learn about cultural differences. As a business professional, you need to understand others’ cultures. For example, visiting companies in China will help me do business with other counties.

The Social Environment of Professional Life:

This Plus3 trip has helped me understand the social environment of professional life in China. I really enjoyed visiting Cheetah Mobile and seeing the fun and creative environment the company has created to encourage worker happiness and productivity. Happy workers make a business run smoother.

Functioning on Multi-Disciplinary Teams:

If everyone does their part, multi-Disciplinary teams make getting work done in a group much easier. I learned this lesson in China while working on our group presentations. Our group was half business students and half engineering students. This made the project much simpler, because the business students could easily work on the business parts of our company and the engineering students could focus on the engineering principles of our company. The project would have been very difficult without each other.

I’m so thankful to be given the opportunity to travel to China with such a diverse group and learn lifelong lessons that will follow me through my business career.
