This morning we took a bus to SGL, which produces carbon fiber for vehicles. The company visit started off with a presentation and then went on to a factory tour, similar to our previous company visits. The one part of the SGL visit that stood out to me was when the tour guide showed us the car door made of carbon fiber. It was really cool, because the material made the door light enough that I could lift it up easily, unlike most car parts that are made of heavy materials.
After the tour of SGL, we took the bus back to the University of Augsburg, where we had an hour to wander around before a BMW presentation. The BMW presentation was all about their future in autonomous vehicles. BMW plans to create personal cars that people can eventually sleep in while the vehicle drives itself, which is very strange for me to think about, and reminds me of the self-driving Ubers around Pittsburgh.
Once the presentation was over, we were over with our program for the day, and were on our own for dinner. Tomorrow we will be heading to Munich for the day!
