This morning, we departed Milan to spend the day at Lake Como. We first stopped at a silk manufacturer called Mantero Seta Spa. We were lucky enough to see an archive of previous patterns and fabrics that Mantero supplied to countless designers including big names like Gucci, Louis Vuitton, and Chanel. I could’ve spent the entire day just looking through the fabrics. Sadly, we couldn’t take any pictures because of issues with design property, but the experience was one I will always remember. We also got to tour the manufacturing section of the facility and actually watch patterns being printed. This was such a cool experience because we got to see patterns that will not debut on the runway until Summer 2019 for big designers. On our way out, we stopped at the gift shop where many students bought silk souvenirs. I bought a silk charm bracelet with the Mantera logo.
We continued our journey to Como and arrived at the beautiful lake for lunch outside. We each enjoyed a delicious pizza and a nice lunch with our peers. Afterwards, we had free time to walk around, admire the lake, and take pictures. The view of Lake Como was absolutely breathtaking. The houses on the hillsides looked like something you see in movies. We then took a nice walking tour of the streets of Como. We learned about a beautiful cathedral called Duomo di Como and the history of the region. Then, we took a boat tour across the Lake to look at the gorgeous villas. We got to see some celebrities’ houses including Gionni Versace and George Clooney. This was by far my favorite day of the trip so far, and I can’t wait to travel to Florence tomorrow.
