Our last day in Florence was bittersweet. So sad to have to leave such a beautiful place. We got a great start to the day by sleeping in. I think it’s safe to say that now we have all overcome our jet lag. Then we went to McDonald’s for breakfast. Very Italian I know. Honestly, the Italian pancakes from McDonalds were delicious and totally got me prepared for the day.
The first and only excursion of the day was a visit to the Academia where we saw the beautiful sculptures done by Michel Angelo. The most amazing of them all was the Statue of David. This piece was amazing. Learning about the history of why his body is disproportional and how Angelo created this piece was so interesting. The detail was mesmerizing and I was truly blown away by its beauty. We then headed to the Duomo where people were given the option of going in or taking the rest of the day for free time.
A few of the other girls and I decided to get some lunch then head back to the hotel for a nap. Lunch was amazing as always. I had gnocchi with meat sauce that truly made my mouth water. After a short nap came shopping. We roamed the streets of Florence stopping in little boutiques trying on the most incredible shoes. All in all it was a great, relaxing day. I am so sad to leave this beautiful city but cannot wait to see Verona!
