Back at the site visits here in Ireland today! We went to Bord Bia (Irish Food Board) today, and it was very different than what I was expecting. We talked about what it could be like compared to companies in the US, and what I came to expect was that it was like the FDA. This couldn’t be further from the truth. Bord Bia is all about the promotion of the Irish food industry; it works with large or small companies to help them with research, target markets, and how they should be branding themselves to better fit with the Irish markets and international markets. Their facility was very creative and completely focused on inspiring open and unique ideas.
Tom Tully, one of the employees at Bord Bia, talked to us for a while about what “Ireland Inc.” means to them. They really want to constantly improve the way the Irish are seen in the business world. They are very focused on education; they pay for graduate students to go to back to school so that they can continue to improve the industries they are working in. This kind of goes back to some things that Darren talked about a few days before. He made it clear that the Irish are very into educational and business improvements since they have made such a big name for themselves in just the past ten years. Irish Inc is all about improvement and the betterment of the people and the country to be a strong force in the global economy.
