This morning, I woke up and ate breakfast in the hotel. It was a really rainy day, but some of us went shopping on the main strip anyways. We looked in a lot of stores, and I bought some clothes in Zara.
Afterwards, we went to Mero & More, a company that is a part of the Consorzio Della Moda, a fashion consortium. It is a group of fashion companies in Verona that work together to facilitate company organization and strategy, internationalization, design and product, and education and research. This allows them to be competitive with larger companies.
We toured Mero & More, and saw how clothing goes from a vision to an actual thing people wear. Designers draw the design on paper, and then it is made with fabric and sewn together. Once the model is approved, the design is put on a computer and a large fabric cutter cuts stacks of fabric at a time. These “blueprints” are then put together and a clothing line is created.
Afterwards, we enjoyed a nice dinner together at the cafe that’s a part of the company. We ate pizza, lasagna, and even a brownie for dessert! (Must be another American stereotype). About a quarter of the group is sick, including me, so afterwards I went back to the hotel to try and get some extra sleep.
