Today we visited Ireland based companies called Food Cloud and Enterprise Ireland. FoodCloud is a social enterprise that connects businesses with surplus food to local charities and community groups in Ireland. One of the CEOs, Iseult Ward, was listed as a social entrepreneur in Forbes 30 under 30. Even though this site was a small and short visit, I really enjoyed learning about two women entrepreneurs having their own startup business, especially creating a non-profit. FoodCloud also gets funding through FEAD (Fund for European Aid to the most Deprived) to help support their business. How ironic FEAD and Food.
The next visit was at Enterprise Ireland. They are responsible or the growth of Ireland enterprises and supporting entrepreneurs in growing their business. My favorite part of the presentation was a program they have special for helping women entrepreneurs grow their business because statistically women are less likely to create their own startup. I also loved the example they showed of one of the companies they funded called Girl Crew. It’s for girls who want to meet other girls and have a good time like going dancing, creating a book club, or travelling! Another extremely cool woman entrepreneur who started her own company called Izzy Wheels.
I ended the day visiting the historic Abbey Theatre! Being a theatre minor and having an Irish background, I have always had a passion for Irish arts. The Abbey Theatre is the National Theatre of Dublin where many famous playwrights showed their plays, such as Shakespeare and Sean O’ Casey. It was a perfect ending to an inspiring day!
