Lá Déag Déag: Day Twelve – “Roads? Where We’re Going We Don’t Need Roads.”

If I were to walk through Dublin in 3 years the first I would notice is the change in the Docklands, aka the Silicon Valley of Dublin, Ireland. Darren talked to us about the area was completely empty and then over the short span of 10 years, the place is booming. It is the European headquarters for companies like Facebook and Google. I vision the Docklands booming with buildings and other international companies locating their headquarters in this beautiful place. I can also see the restriction of how many stories a building can be due to the mass boom of technology growth in this area.  I imagine visiting Dublin in 3 years and I think about the potential of Amazon. When I first visited the building, I couldn’t believe how new the building was. It was so new that I could smell the new carpeting and the place was practically empty from what I saw. I imagine in only a short few years, the company is at the same intensity and drive as Google. Amazon is a company I would love to come back and visit in 3 years. However, this large growth in the next 3 years could have a dangerous effect on Irish culture. I imagine if international companies were to have buildings and employees working at these companies, they could get accustomed different cultures. This influence of other cultures in the heart of Ireland could have a significant impact on culture, which is devastating because I have learned how precious Irish culture is to Ireland. Despite this mass growth and comparing it to past Irish history when revolting against the British, I believe Ireland will stay true to its roots and seeing internationals becoming accustomed to Irish tradition instead.
