Meet Plus3 Costa Rica 2019!

Welcome to the Costa Rica Plus3 Study Abroad Program!

Professor Ryan Teeter and Brandi Gongaware, Admissions and Recruiting Coordinator, are traveling to the Costa Rica Central Valley, Monteverde, and Tarrazu with 24 College of Business Administration and Swanson School of Engineering students from May 4th-May 18th. In addition to numerous cultural experiences, the trip will include visits to Café Britt, Café 1820, Life Monteverde, the National Coffee Institute, and the Dole Banana Plantation.

In 2019, students will explore globalization in Costa Rica through the Coffee and Banana industries.

The second-most sought-after commodity in the world, coffee moves through a complex global web on its way to consumption. Your trip to Costa Rica will give you a firsthand look at both large-scale and small-scale coffee growing, processing, and exportation. Background on Costa Rica’s history and politics will give you a base to use in company visits exploring engineering practices and environmental impacts as well as international marketing. Q&A sessions with company executives and representatives will allow you to dig deeper into business and engineering practices and to better understand the interdependencies in the global market.

  • Company visits included Café Britt, Café 1820, Life Monteverde, Dole Bananas, and National Coffee Institute
  • Cultural activities included a trip to Monteverde (cloud forests and coffee plantations), Poas Volcano, La Paz Waterfalls, and activities with local Costa Rican students
  • Locations will include Heredia, Monteverde, various areas neighboring the Central Valley
