Dreams to Reality, A Journey to Ireland

Dia Dhaoibh! My name is Keith Lundberg, I’m a Non-traditional Student at Pitt Business, currently pursuing an Accounting Degree and a Certificate in Business Analytics. When I graduate in December 2020, I plan to sit for the CPA exams and enter the realm of Public Accounting, with dreams of eventually practicing on an international level. This past tax season I interned with Herbein + Company as a tax preparer and I’m currently working with Pitt’s Office of Finance, which oversees the University’s endowment funds.

Before moving to Pittsburgh to attend Pitt I lived, worked, and attended a community college in Luzerne County, Pa, which is in the northeastern part of the state. I moved to Pittsburgh during the summer of 2017 with my girlfriend, Sarah, our three cats and have since added a rescue pup to our lovely little family unit. I originally transferred in to The College of General Studies here at Pitt and spent a year there studying and preparing to enter Pitt Business. Spring of 2018 marked my first official semester as a Pitt Business student, and I couldn’t be happier with my experience here with the CBA (College of Business Administration). Everybody I’ve met here seems to be just as invested in my success as I am, which inspires me to dream a little bigger every day.

I’m super excited to be a part of the Plus3 trip to Ireland. As a transfer student as well as an adult learner opportunity to study abroad seemed far out of reach. So, I’m extremely grateful to the University for putting this program together. The Plus3 program is essentially a 3-credit course crammed it to 2 weeks located in a foreign country. Academically, this is a fantastic opportunity as it will allow me to knock out multiple requirements for graduation as well gain real world experience learning about subjects like foreign culture as well as international business practices.

I believe this trip will also give us the opportunity to develop some “soft skills” like flexibility, communication, and developing interpersonal relationship under stressful situations, in a way that no traditional classroom setting could ever hope to compare. By all accounts this trip is not a vacation and we will be keeping a breakneck pace through out our time in Dublin. It’s this aspect of the trip in which I feel will be invaluable to myself and my travel companions, and I’m ready to rise to meet this challenge!

As a twice over transfer student, as well as being a bit older than most of my classmates, I haven’t been able to establish many of the long lasting meaning full relationships with my peers, that we all know are essential for long term success in the business world. Because of the nature of this trip and proximity in which we will be living to each other while oversees, this shared experience will really allow us to develop our own unique network with each other and those we meet while in Ireland.

As I publish this, we are less than two weeks out from the trip and the excitement is already almost unbearable. While oversees I will be keeping a daily blog and look forward to documenting this trip and the memories I will be making while visiting The Emerald Isle. I will be linking my blog to my social media profiles so keep your eyes open for updates if you wish to follow my adventures!
