Day 1: Made it to Milan

We made it to Milan! After a full day and night of flying and exploring the Pittsburgh and Newark airports all with very little sleep, we finally touched down in Italy. I couldn’t wait to let this Plus3 experience really sink in!

We went through customs and baggage claim before hopping on a bus to take us to our hotel. Looking out the window I was able to admire the architecture of the buildings here. The buildings are fascinating, and I definitely want to explore the architecture more on this trip, particularly these contemporary condos with plants overflowing on each balcony that we passed.

Once we arrived at the hotel, we quickly dropped our luggage off before heading over to the ATM machines to exchange our American dollars for Euros. The weather was a bit gray and rainy as we walked around, observing the metro stations and pizza places near our hotel. We then headed to the restaurant for our group lunch. The restaurant was very nice, and there was so much food: seemingly endless bowls of bread, different cheese and meat platters, lasagna, and finally dessert.

Once we checked into our rooms, we listened to a safety orientation, which was very beneficial in preparing us for our experience in Italy. After the orientation ended, our day was free, so I went with a group to explore the Buenos Aires shopping area. We all loved the very first store we went into; it was two floors full of clothes, shoes, and accessories that were fashionable, and to my surprise, very reasonably priced. It was interesting to see the styles in the store that were similar to ones in America as well as the ones that were different.

We continued walking and shopping, noticing the interesting architecture and restaurants all the while. We stopped for dinner at a very fun, unique restaurant that also happened to be very tasty. While we were struggling to remember to “grazie” instead of “thank you,” we started to get the hang of it by the time we stopped for some gelato.

The traveling may have been exhausting, but it is definitely all worth it to be here in Milan. After our first taste of the city, I am so eager to see and experience more during our trip!
