Embracing The Culture

The hotel breakfast started the day off right. They served eggs, bacon, fruit, tater tots, dumplings, and sausage which really was an actual hot dog. They also had fresh orange juice and an espresso machine. After breakfast, we boarded the bus and headed to the Royal Palace. On the way, we got to pass the president’s house, which is known as the Blue House due to the blue/green roof. The driveway was extremely long with the whole area being trees, so it was very hard to see it. When we arrived at the Palace, we entered the first gate and waited in this huge space to see the changing of the guards. A crowd formed, and people dressed in traditional clothes walked on carrying flags, swords, and instruments. After the changing of the guards occurred, we walked through the other two gates until we arrived at the main attraction. We were able to look into the throne that was in front of the 5 mountain painting. The sheer size and attention to detail of the whole palace was amazing. Afterwards, we headed to the massive hall where the king would throw parties and dances. The entire building was lifted up and stood above and surrounded by water. We then saw the living quarters of the king and queen who actually slept in different buildings. We boarded the bus and headed to lunch. We had a great meal at a small restaurant close to our hotel. I couldn’t tell you what I ate but it was amazing. Afterwards we headed to a temple in the city. There were these colorful lanterns that hung above and the sunlight hitting the lanterns provided a perfect opportunity for a cool photo. We walked around and then headed to a nearby Hanok Village which consisted of traditional Korean houses which were so cool. After walking around for a little bit, we went to some market that had everything you could ever need. We had a good amount of time to shop and at the end, I bought some dumplings that were mouthwatering. We went back to the hotel and relaxed a little bit before heading out to dinner. A few of us went to a fried chicken place and it was delicious. Afterwards, we walked around until finding a karaoke place and sang our hearts out for an hour. We were exhausted and had lost our voice after karaoke so we went back to the hotel and passed out.
