Day 4: Rain or Shine, We Still Have a Good Time

Hey friends!

This is our fourth day in Italy, and our first day trip outside of Milan! Today we toured the famous silk company Manterro then took a trip to Lake Como. We must have brought the Pittsburgh curse with us, because it was cold and rainy all day. But that didn’t stop us from having a good time!

To start our day trip, we visited the silk company Manterro, a luxury silk company headquartered in Como, Italy. We were able to go inside the design studio to see the creative minds at work, and then into the factory to watch the drawings become a final product. It was everything I’d expected, with the employees being cut-edge and high fashion, even the factory workers! There was even a huge archive of everything Manterro has created, with books that looked old and worn as if they were biblical. Afterwards we were taken to the gift shop where we had the opportunity to purchase Manterro’s beautiful products. Let’s just say I think my mom is going to love her Mother’s Day gift!

A little down the road from Manterro is Lake Como, one of the most stunning places in the world and also the home of George Clooney. We had lunch at a pizzeria and then took a small tour of the historic small town Como. It’s only our fourth day here, and the amount of pizza I’ve eaten so far is unreal. Who would have ever though I could get sick of pizza? Nonetheless it was delicious. I even had my first shot of espresso with a little persuasion from one of our advisors Frank. It didn’t taste the best, but it definitely cured my jet lag. Right after lunch we ventured out to tour Como. Sadly this is when our lovely Pittsburgh weather started to come down hard. Everything turned out fine though, and we continued the tour by hopping on a boat and exploring some of the Lake. Some of us stood outside, and even though it was cold and we were wet, it was still tons of fun. It was an adventure to say the least. But these are the memories that will last a lifetime.

Signing off for today, can’t wait to tell you guys everything about tomorrow. Ciao!
