First Seoul Experience

We had finally made it to Korea and for the first time in my life I was in Asia. Right away I was so excited and in love with Korea. We got on a coach bus and we had our tour guide, Rob, talk about Korea the whole way to the hotel. The airport is located at Incheon which is an island right near Seoul so our drive to the hotel included several bridges and going over the Yellow Sea and the Han River. As we drove to our hotel our tour guide pointed out satellite cities. These are almost mini cities off of Seoul that include big apartment complexes that most people live in. An interesting fact is when you include the population of the satellite cities, Seoul has a population of 25 million people which is half of the population of Korea. What was also very interesting is that Korea emphasizes collectivism, a contrast from the United States which focuses on individualism. This has caused the people to mostly  wear more white, grey, and black clothes, have white, grey or black cars, and live in buildings that are white, grey, or black. All the buildings I realized are a pretty neutral color because of that mentality. We made it into Seoul and arrived at our hotel. The hotel blew me away with the cool technology. To turn the lights on you needed to place your card key in a slot and the toilet was a whole new story. It has so many options and was very intimidating to use. The room was very nice and will be great for the days we are here in Seoul. It is located in the very center of Seoul and is conveniently located to interesting places. Once we got settled in the hotel we had a group dinner at the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts. We were given a wide array of small dishes which included fish and pork. The food was delicious and it gave us a great preview of the food that was to come during this trip. After dinner everyone went back to the hotel for some rest. Later on three of us decided to go exploring the city and found this very cool street that included several restaurants. We walked around and then it got to the point to call it a night. Although we had only been in Korea for about half a day, I was already having such a fun time and it gave a great preview for the rest of the two weeks.
