Good Times at Gyeongju World

Rest stops in Korea are, for the most part, a lot better than the ones in the US, although I wasn’t used to the squat toilets.

For most of the morning and afternoon, we were on a bus leaving the exciting city of Seoul and heading towards Gyeongju. I enjoyed the city of Seoul, as it had so many things to offer, from street food to shopping areas, but I was ready to see what else Korea had to offer.

Once we got to Gyeongju, we had free time for the rest of the day. We had a lovely view from our window in our hotel, and nearby we could pick out an amusement park that called our names. After slathering on some sunscreen and grabbing a hat, we started off towards our chosen destination.

The walk to Gyeongju world was really pretty, and there were many families out and about, enjoying the pleasant weather. It was a really nice time to go out and walk.

We got a discount when we got to Gyeongju, and our first stop was a large rollercoaster with a very steep drop. It had been a while since I had gone to an amusement park, and in addition, I usually don’t go on too steep of rollercoasters. Just looking at it made me nervous, and butterflies fluttered around in my stomach. But the entire group was determined and excited, so I swallowed my nervousness and shuffled around in line with them.

Once we reached the front of the line, Emma and I were strapped into the very front row. As we approached the top of the rollercoaster, I could feel the dread creep in. At the very top, just before the drop, the ride stopped – no worries, it’s supposed to do that – and we peered into the steep drop ahead. And then, we dropped.

It was super fun. It also made me happy to be alive. That is the steepest drop on a rollercoaster that I have ever been on, and what makes it even more special is that it was in Korea!

Food at amusement parks in Korea are extremely cheap in comparison to those in America. I did not see anything past 10000 won, while in the US a mere corn dog can sell for above $7. We bought cotton candy, and they were shaped into cute animal shapes; they were so adorable!

After that, we went on a lot of smaller rides, and wrapped up with a ride on the ferris wheel. Once we were at the top of ferris wheel, we could see the park lit up with LED lights in a colorful display. It was really a pretty sight.

It was a good day with good company at Gyeongju.
