A Saturday in Gyeongju-si

Saturday started very early. We took off from Seoul to travel to the more secluded city of Gyeongju-si. We stopped at rest stops on the way. I noticed that rest stops in South Korea are very modern, clean, and the food is quite decent compared to what you would imagine is offered at a rest stop living in the United States. The long drive turned out to be shorter than expected. We arrived early enough for us all to go do stuff in Gyeongju for our free time.

Zach Goldstein was assigned to be my roommate for the Commodore Hotel. We hung out a bit in our room before going for a walk around the hotel. We went to the theme park here afterwards. It’s called Gyeongju World. It was only a 5 minute walk from the hotel and it was loads of fun. We first tried out the massive orange roller coaster that we saw from our window. It was this giant ride that would take you very high up at first, and hold you hanging at a angle facing straight to the ground, and speed into a near vertical drop.

After that terrifying ride, we went on a few other ones. Among them was this one ride that would have been very illegal in the United States, to say the least (LOL!). They would set you into this one giant bowl and you are supposed to hold on to the railing in the back as it jerks you violently back and forth and there was no belts or other safety measures. You heard me right—no seatbelt. I was holding on to my dear life.

We went and got gimbap—Korean sushi in a sense—and then Zach and I watched Guardian of the Galaxy 2 before I fell to sleep.
