Goodbye Pittsburgh. Hello Augsburg!
Hello everyone,
My name is Semira McFarlane, and I am participating in the Plus 3 Germany program this Maymester. I am a Freshman Marketing major here at Pitt. I am also minoring in Economics and plan on getting a certificate in TV and Broadcast Arts. I always say that with my studies I want to work in the industries of food, fashion, and/or film, but after visiting Germany, the auto industry could make its way onto the list!
Outside of class I am heavily involved in community service at Pitt. I was recently voted the VP of Service for a service organization I am involved in called Circle K. I also participate in an organization called Food Recovery Heroes that works to fight food waste here on campus. Next semester I hope to get involved in even more extracurriculars on campus and meet more driven and likeminded students. When I am not busy with schoolwork or participating in a club, I love watching insanely long YouTube videos about random topics, exploring the city with my friends, or just taking a relaxing walk around Schenley park.
I decided to participate in Plus 3 Germany specifically, because I knew it would be the most challenging for me. I knew that immersing myself in a completely new culture and industry would provide me with the most enriching learning experiences. As a business student, I am excited to get a fresh perspective on how business is conducted, how organizations and teams are structured, and how professionals communicate. As a traveler, I want to take in as much of my environment as possible, learn from those I meet along the way, and take my newfound knowledge and experience with me back home. Most importantly, I want to make connections and memories that will last a lifetime.
