Hi! I’m Owen Spencer, and I’m from the suburbs of Philadelphia, just like everyone else at this school. I’ve spent my freshman year at Pitt in Swanson with intent to major in industrial engineering, but I’ll be transferring to SCI in Fall 2022 to pursue computer science. I currently plan on going into data science—particularly machine learning—but it’s hardly set in stone.
My main hobby is playing and writing music. I’ve played the guitar and bass for years, but I only recently picked up songwriting and production as a quarantine hobby. My musical influences include artists like the Beatles, Steely Dan, and Tame Impala, but I’ll listen to pretty much anything! I also like to read in my free time, and I got into philosophy during my time at Pitt, and I’m currently struggling through Nietzsche.
Although I initially chose the Amsterdam Plus3 location, Cyprus was my second choice, so I’m still very excited for this program. I’m fascinated by the flow of data—and in a more abstract sense, information—within and between industries, so the more supply chain-oriented programs aligned closely with my professional interests. Additionally, as someone who’s never left the United States, I’m glad to have this opportunity to explore a new country in both cultural and industrial contexts. In addition to the academic material covered in this program, I hope to learn through experience how cultures differ across countries and continents.
