Day 2: Lovely Limassol

Today, we had two meetings with two different companies. We first met with Medochemie, a pharmaceutical drug manufacturer. We visited Medochemie’s facility in Limassol. Later, we had a meeting with Wargaming, a gaming company, at the University of Nicosia.

Medochemie was founded in 1976 in Cyprus. They are now manufacturing in Cyprus, Netherlands, and Vietnam. Netherlands was chosen because of its central location in Europe and Vietnam was chosen because of its cheap resources and electricity. Medochemie talked about quality assurance. They said, “Everyone is quality assurance.” They must follow GMP, Good Manufacturing Practice, which are strict guidelines, like the FDA, that must be followed when manufacturing drugs. Medochemie follows a rigid supply chain to produce its drugs to customers. They follow a certain plan. They go from the strategic stage to the tactical stage and to the operational stage.

Wargaming was founded in 1998. They have a continent on every continent except Africa and Antarctica. The most famous game they ever developed was World of Tanks. This game is considered a Legendary Game because people are still playing it after ten years. In 2014, World of Tanks won best game of the year. Other games they have made include World of Warships and World of Warplanes. The end of the presentation was about developing a game. The steps involved in creating a game were described along with the cost along each step.

Today was very informational. Limassol was a beautiful coast city. One cool thing we saw were the off-season crew ships that just sit at their ports because it is cheaper for them to stay there. It was a beautiful day.
