Let’s Be Honest…

To be completely honest, I didn’t know much about Microsoft before today’s visit. When I heard the word Microsoft, a few things like Windows, Microsoft Suite, Bill Gates, and Tech Giant came to mind. My first impression of Microsoft was primarily built on the days before I became an Apple user. I remember using Windows computers for elementary school and now Microsoft Teams for Pitt Business. Besides my personal experience with the company’s products and services, I viewed Microsoft as being a Tech Giant that many would be lucky to work for. After today’s site visit, my perception of Microsoft completely changed.

The company that I once viewed as a primarily hardware and software company is now one I see in a completely different light. Today’s visit illustrated how little I was aware of the variety of products and services that Microsoft has to offer consumers. More than just computers, tablets, phones, and software, the tech giant has much more to show this world. Who would have thought that Microsoft designed a sensor to track the health and location of cows to help farmers track data on their livestock? Did you know that Microsoft created a controler so that individuals with physical disabilities can still have access to interacting with gaming systems? Neither did I! What about a keyboard for blind people? Did you know that Microsoft developed such a product? Last but not least, did you know that Microsoft has used its software to analyze data to help discover a genetic trend in SIDS?

Suppose you weren’t aware of these things about Microsoft before reading this blog. In that case, we share something in common regarding our preliminary understanding of Microsoft’s products and services. After being aware of the company’s initiatives/ efforts and commitment to corporate social responsibility, I could certainly see myself working at Microsoft! It would certainly be fantastic to work for a corporation that works so hard to make a difference in the world.

Given what I know now after the tech company visit, I would like to ask Dr.Kelley about his predictions on the future of Tech in Ireland.
