Today was packed full of things to do as we traveled to many parts of the island. We traveled to the city of Limassol again today to meet with Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement (BSM) Maritime Training Center which they train people to work on ships that ship large amounts of cargo across different seas. This company acts as an intermediary for companies, as owners of ships will come to this company and ask for help managing their ships, then they go to another company that needs items shipped and work with both companies to make business work. They train some students for wet ships and dry ships. Dry ships are ships that hold dry cargo like bulk and large shipping containers to be taken to other parts of the world. Wet ships hold more liquid like gases and oils needed for vehicles and other machineries. This can be dangerous for workers as they need to make sure the ships do not catch on fire or have any errors as this can be very dangerous for workers and potentially a bomb that can harm people and the surrounding environment. 90-95% of the goods we buy in stores are shipped and transported by vessels. Over Covid many students needed large monitors or multiple monitors in order to display all of the information they needed to attend class and do work. We were taken into many different rooms the students use and materials they use to train for when they are on a boat like fire protection, engine rooms, and how to steer and drive the ship. Boating and cargo is a big part of Cyprus, given that it is an island.
After this tour we went to Omodos village which is a small village in the mountain region of Cyprus. We were able to stop and get lunch that had amazing food and afterwards we were able to walk around the town. We found good spots to get pictures in front of some mountain slopes and went to buy some souvenirs at a local shop. When our time here was up, we traveled to Troodos Square up high in the mountains and it had small shops and cafes that served with great views. A couple others and I walked up the mountain to near the top to get pictures and views of the land some of the liked I have never seen before.
