Day 3, the docks & ThinkHouse

Today was probably my favorite day yet. We started out with breakfast and I got the full Irish breakfast. It was good, although I was not a huge fan of the beans for breakfast… After breakfast, we did a tour of the docks, where a lot of the tech companies in Dublin are located, with Dr. Kelley from CAPA. He was so knowledgeable and helped show us old and modern Ireland. What I noticed is that where we are staying in St. Augustine would be more of an older Ireland. Christ Church Cathedral is located right near us and that is one of the oldest buildings in Dublin, while the docks are very modern and new buildings. This contrast represents the old, catholic, conservative Ireland while the docks represent the newer, more modern, and entrepreneurial spirit. Later in the day, we visited another company called ThinkHouse. This company was extremely interesting and the whole group seemed to really enjoy it as well as kept on asking questions even when we went past our allotted time. This marketing agency focuses on working with companies to market to the Gen Z age demographic. They have a lot of fun and new creative marketing strategies which really encapsulate the new, modern, and entrepreneurial spirit of Ireland. ThinkHouse also focuses on mental health, sustainability, and saving the environment which is one of the benefits of the new Ireland work perspective. I absolutely loved ThinkHouse and they seem like a great company to work for. One of the more interesting things that I liked learning about today was something that Dr. Kelley said. He talked about the importance of being a well-rounded and “middle man” in the business world. He touched on how grades are important, but being a personal and friendly person may even be more important.
