Day three in Cyprus was a great experience. We visited Limassol for the day which included visits to two ports and a castle. To begin the day, we had another early morning starting at 8:00 am which was yet again kickstarted by a cappuccino from the espresso machine. After a long drive to Limassol, we arrived at DPW port, the largest commercial port on Cyprus. The architecture was very modern, clean, and impressive. The presentation given by a communication associate that attended college in Houston, TX was intriguing and the perfect length. After wrapping up the presentation, we took a tour of the port by the bus and were able to see the standard procedure for loading a shipping container onto a semi-truck.
After attending the first port presentation and tour, we headed inside a large warehouse to hear from another company that helped run the port. This presentation was interesting as well and I enjoyed hearing about the system that organizes all movements of shipping containers that arrive on ships. After this presentation, we were given traditional pastries and coffee that were both very good.
The next port we headed to looked quite different from the first. After the two company visits, we drove to an old marina that housed restaurants that overlooked the blue sea. After lunch, we walked only a few blocks to an old castle that contained artifacts that are older than America as a country. Following the castle, we were given free time that was spent looking at a nearby mosque and getting a closer look at the Mediterranean Sea. After our day in Limassol wrapped up, we headed back to Nicosia where we had a laid back evening.
